The most common STDs are listed below:
- GONORRHEA
- CHLAMYDIA
- SYPHILIS
- HEP B & C
- HIV
- HERPES
Gonorrhea - also known as Clap, Dose, Drip
Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection at first may cause a
slight discharge from the vagina, penis or anus. However,
if the infection is not treated, it can lead to sterility and
other complications. Gonorrhea can be treated with antibiotics.

Chlamydia – also known as the Clam, Gooey Stuff
Chlamydia trachomatis is often called "the silent epidemic"
because infections are common yet three quarters of those
affected do not realize that they are infected. If symptoms
appear they may include abnormal discharge or burning when
urinating, pain during intercourse, or a slight itching around
the opening of the penis or swelling of the testicles. This
bacterial disease is easily cured with antibiotics but can
have serious health consequences, such as infertility in women,
if left untreated.

Syphilis – also known as Syph, Pox, Bad Blood
Syphilis is a bacterial infection that can be easily missed.
The first symptom is a painless blister or sore (in your mouth,
genital areas or anus) that will disappear on its own in a few
days. Just because the sore goes away, does not mean that the
infection is cured. Syphilis can be treated with antibiotics.
However, if left untreated, the disease can spread throughout
your body over the course of many years and cause considerable
organ damage.

Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C
These are viral infections that can be transmitted through
sexual contact. Symptoms include a short, mild, flu-like illness,
nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss,
jaundice (yellowing of skin and whites of eyes, darker yellow
urine and pale feces), itchy skin, and abdominal pain.
Hepatitis B and C affect the liver and can severely damage it.
Treatment is available, but currently used drug therapies may
have serious side effects.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus – also known as HIV, the
Hiv and “Has the Packageâ€Â
HIV is associated with AIDS. Early symptoms may include fever,
rash, swollen lymph nodes, loss of appetite, sore throat,
mouth sores, joint pain, diarrhea, fatigue, night sweats,
nausea, headaches and genital sores. However, there may
be no symptoms at all. This virus attacks and destroys certain
white blood cells (T-helper lymphocytes) that are involved in
the immune system. As the number of these cells is reduced,
the ability of your body to fight off infections also decreases.
Although there is no cure, early detection allows for treatment
with anti-viral therapies that can help to prolong life.

Genital Herpes
This virus causes recurrent, periodic outbreaks of sores in the
genital region and remains in your body for life. When signs do
occur, they typically appear as one or more blisters on or around
the genitals or rectum. The blisters break, leaving tender ulcers
that may take two to four weeks to heal the first time they occur.
Although the infection can stay in the body forever, the number
of outbreaks usually decreases over a period of years. However,
there are anti-viral therapies available that can shorten the
duration of symptoms. The only way to detect genital warts is
with a pap smear (for women) or a visual examination of the
affected areas by your doctor.
