Chlamydia trachomatis, Nucleic Acid Amplification (NAA)
Chlamydia is a commonly contracted STD.
Symptoms in Women:
3/4 of women show no symptoms, abnormal vaginal discharge,
burning sensation when urinating, lower abdominal pain, low back pain, nausea, fever, pain during intercourse, and bleeding between menstrual periods.
Symtoms in Men:
Half of men show no symptoms, discharge from penis, burning sensation when urinating, and burning and itching around the opening of the penis.
It is commonly spread because many times there are no symptoms.
Chlamydia is treatable with antibiotics. If left untreated it can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, or PID, in women or cause infertility. In men if left untreated it can cause NGU (nongonococcal urethritis).
One of the most common STD’s with approximately 1 million people affected in the U.S. alone.
This is a urine test that looks for Chlamydia trachomatis by nucleic acid amplification. This is the preferred method by the CDC.
